July 1, 2003, 1st ever Tuesday Tofu Taco Night
Richie and Kim's first meal together in his new abode. Fred is also present and manages to scarf down a few. They watch
South Park and relax afterwards. The episode was the one where the kids form a boy band called "Finger Bang," not
quite sure what it really means.
It's their third night apart and they are about to loose all sense of belonging to each other. Their water is starting
to run upstream and they're frustrated about that.
July 3, 20003, Thursday
They attend the church sponsored BBQ and eat their hot dogs and watermelon with glee. Jen joins them for this part.
That night, Jen, Joey and the lovebirds go to PCH hot dogs and the Signal, across the street from Fred Kelly Stadium where
the fireworks show takes place.
July 4, 2003, Friday
Richie and Kim end up staying in all day despite invitations to a block party and BBQ. They are exhausted and hot all
day.
July 5, 2003, Saturday
They take a drive down the 133 with Fred to Laguna Beach. Richie watches Boogie Nights for the first time that day.
Various friends like Slug and Andy hang out, as well as new people Kim's never met before. They watch South Park: Bigger,
Longer and Uncut after that and Kim falls asleep partyway through.
July 6, 2003, Sunday
They go to the Green party of OC meeting after a lunch at Huong Huong Food To Go in the Little Saigon area. They hang
out at Jen's with Jen, Dan and Kevin watching Apocalypse Now and playing a very cathartic video game, something called Burnout
or Burnout 2 or something. They play a couple of games of pool and have a couple at LR and head home to the BP.
July 7, 2003, Monday
Richie comes over and watches part of Twin Falls Idaho and most of In the Bedroom with Kim. She gives him a haircaut
and they go to Mc Clure's where they meet up with Jen, Selena and Lisa, a friend of Selena's. They listen to mostly bad renditions
of old classics (karoake)and head home, where the Fred is up and antsy. Fred notices Richie's no 'do and says it looks very
Beatles. Kim, for the second time that day, feels stuck in the 60s.
July 8, 2003
Improv Asian Cuisine night. Shrimp wontons, cream cheese wontons and shrimp chow mein. Chocolate chip cookie dough ice
cream with chocolate whipped cream. They watch South Park and go to bed.
July 9-13
Trip to San Francisco, Berkeley and Redwood City to visit various family members and watch Chi Hien get married to Kevin.
Richie has his first Din Sum for breakfast on Friday and they eat Sushi (also for breakfast) for two mornings, thursday and
saturday. On Sunday at John and Lois's brunch they mutually ingest their first fritata. They visit Berkeley, Redwood City
and Casa De Fruta on the drive home to Orange. In Berkeley, they do the stream walk to the back of the school from the front
and find themselves a heck of a long way from their car. In Redwood City they visit Kim's grandparents and some aunts and
uncles. Richie gets on a ladder and picks apricots warm from the sun. Then he picks some oranges. They get on the 101,
take the 152, and go to Casa De Fruta via the Pacheco Pass. Kim experiences her first informal wine tasting at Casa De Fruta
and they find a wine that excites them both; Casa De Fruta's Raspberry wine. (AKA Raspberry Casa De Fruta) Somewhere along
the way, Richie fell in love with Kim, something she didn't forsee ever happening. She is pleasantly surprised.
July 17, 2003
A night of friends with a few cigars and a bottle of cognac. Slug, Fred, Morgan, Kim and Richie are all present.
July 18, 2003
Richie interviews at the red brick building and they spend their morning and part of their afternoon at the Cal State
Fullerton Arboretum. It rains that morning but remains warm, and they feel the compulsion to spend the time afterwards outdoors.
They stand in the bamboo together and kiss, they sit at the little rock table and chair where Kim used to eat her lunch while
at the CMA camp in the summer of 1996. The exact amount of time spent at the arboretumis unknown; they have no source or
sense of time because neither of them wore a watch nor had a cell phone that morning. They, along with Fred and Morgan, go
to Jen's apartment for her birthday party. An ice cream cone shped balloon and some big multicolored ones decorate the place,
adding a little liveliness to it all.
July 19, 2003
Kim interviews at a music school. They spend a nice long time with each other getting home that day before vounteering
at the Orange County Fair that night.
July 20, 2003
The go to D&B for a few games to kill time before Wolfgang Puck's sushi bar opens up at 4. Daryl and Jen meet them
for sushi. Though Wolfgang Puck's has brought sweet shrimp back to the menu, it doesn't compare to Smiley's place, Kobe Sushi.
The WP sushi has also decresed noticeably in size. They have fun anyway. They head home by a little after 5 and fall asleep
until 9 pm that night, when they get up, hang out for a little bit with Fred and Morgan, watch the Simpsons and Punch Drunk
Love. By 1:30 am, they fall asleep again.
July 26, 2003
Richie takes Kim to Hollingshead for her first experience there. Kim eats a bratwurst, a couple of deviled eggs, some
pasta salad, and lots of pickled peppers. Richie has the same plus a polish dog. They experiment with some German beers-
delicious. They volunteer at the fair that night, where they try their first (and last) deep fried Twinkie. They ride the
sky benchy things and have a mutually and dually uplifting time.
July 27, 2003
They go to JoAnn's in search of those perfect yards of fabric for Richie's car Cassandra. They LR and play pool. Richie
adopts a stuffed duck. They visit Danny in Dana Point and they go to Mike B's for a BBQ and yearly reunion.
July 29, 2003
They experience their first drama by the hands of another feuding couple, but their love remains intact. At this point,
Kim is really, absolutely in love with Richie. She judges his reactions to different situations in life and he passes all
tests of civility and kindness. That night, Rebecca comes over and Morgan, Fred, Richie, and Kim watch Gangs of New York
and eat a steak dinner with broccoli and monterey jack cheese, complete with two bottles of 2 buck chuck merlot. Afterwards,
Rebec and Kim go out and pick up Autumn; the girls head to Thomas's for his 30th birthday party. They have a great time together.
Rebec drops Kim off at Richie's and they have a nice night together until the drama continues with a phone call from one
of the offending parties in question. The call comes at 3:30 in the morning, which brings us to the next day.....
July 30, 2003
Kim and Richie wake up, feeling tired, but happy about their night. Richie drops Kim off at home before proceeding to
work and Kim's little sister Khanh comes home from Australia. That night, they go to Paul's for a quickie and then hit La
Cave for some jazz courtesy of the Todd Oliver Quartet. There, they hang with Rebec, Autumn, Mike and Kelly. After that,
they go with Mike to Paul's where they drink Chivas Regal and play pool.
