This show has had a most profound effect on society.  The Oxford English Dictionary now includes "Doh" (alternate spelling, "D'oh") in its lexicon. We relate with the Simpsons because of their comic imperfections and shortcomings as an average American family ("Simpsons" means literally "son of a simpleton") and we love them for their witty and oftentimes insightful dialogue.  Here, in random order, are some of the memorable moments in the Simpsons family history.

In season one,  Lisa meets Bleeding Gums Murphy, a kindred spirit.  She also has a moment of inspiration soon stamped out by Mr. Largo, her band teacher.  He has a little insight as well...
Largo: [tapping on music stand]  Lisa.  [taps louder]  LISA SIMPSON!
[finally attracting her attention]  Lisa, there's no room for
crazy bebop in ``My Country 'Tis of Thee''.
Lisa:  But Mr. Largo!  That's what my country's all about.
   Largo: What?!?
Lisa:  I'm wailing out for the homeless family living out of a car.  The idle farmer whose land has been taken away by uncaring bureaucrats.  The West Virginia coal-miner caught...
Largo: Well, that's all fine and good, but Lisa, none of those unpleasant people are going to be at the recital next week.  Now class, from the top.  Five, six, seven...

Also from season one, Marge takes up bowling after receiving a bowling ball from Homer for her 34th birthday.  She decides to get bowling lessons where she falls for Jacques, her instructor.  Homer senses the change all week and has had a melancholy day at the plant.  She is about to go and meet Jacques for a secret rendez-vous when she has a change of heart and drives to the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant instead.  Homer shows his insecure side when he asks her:     "Marge!  What a lovely surprise!  You're hear to see me, right?"
Marge: Of course!  [cuddles and kisses him on the cheek]

Homer picks her up and carries her past his cheering co-workers.  ("Way to go, Homer, Way to Go!" they chant)

Worker: Hey, what will I tell the boss?
Homer:  Tell him I'm going to the back seat of my car, with the woman I love, and I won't be back for ten minutes!

In the seventh season of the show, Lisa decides to become a vegetarian.  She pictures the pork chop on her plate as the cute little lamb she befriended at the petting zoo.  She wakes up from her reverie and says: "No I can't!  I can't eat any of them!"
Homer: Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute.  Lisa honey, are you saying you're *never* going to eat any animal again?  What about bacon?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Ham?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Pork chops?
Lisa: Dad!  Those all come from the same animal!
Homer: [Chuckles] Yeah, right Lisa.  A wonderful, magical animal.

Apu:   You look familiar, sir.  Are you on the television or something?
Homer: Sorry buddy, you've got me confused with Fred Flintstone.
